Due to an exceptionally mild winter here on the West Coast, spring has sprung much earlier than usually anticipated signaling the beloved cherry blossom season. It’s been commented that Vancouver’s blossoms rival those in Japan; with all the pomp and pageantry but far fewer crowds and none of the congested thoroughfares. Swaths of perfectly pink froth can be seen flanking streets throughout the city, as well as in public parks, squares, and gardens. What better way to celebrate spring than to enjoy a stroll down a city street or in one of the many parks where the blossoms are blooming. Weather permitting, pack a picnic, locate the perfect spot and set up a blanket to sit under a cascading canopy of blossoms. See below for our concierge recommendations on the prime cherry blossom sites in Vancouver:
- David Lam Park: probably the main hub of the annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Fest; many scheduled activities, including The Big Picnic, Blossoms After Dark, live entertainment, as well as vendors and street performers. Lots to see and do
- Queen Elizabeth Park: not nearly as crowded as David Lam Park; a beautiful grove of large old growth trees (just along the park entrance at 33rd Ave) with drop dead gorgeous expanse of blossoms make for visually stunning photos. A venue that’s always chosen for spring wedding photography. Well worth the drive. If you’re feeling peckish after ward, head over to Seasons in the Park restaurant, which offers a lovely West Coast menu as well as an expansive view of downtown and East Vancouver
