Although downtown Vancouver may not be the city that never sleeps (that honour belongs to New York!), there’s plenty of activity from dawn to dusk, especially in the summer.
The morning begins in Coal Harbour, where float planes have a busy schedule of landings and takeoffs around the clock. Get a spectacular view of this water vista while you take a stroll, cycle, or casual run along the adjacent sea wall where you may spy a yacht or two gliding through to Burrard Inlet. If you’re out and about in the downtown core, it’s worth visiting the two brand new murals gracing the urban landscape: serene Waterfront Pond on the entire side of a parking garage and the colourful splashes of Madre Gaia on the side of a second-story Yaletown building.
In the mood for a musical interlude? Right beside the Auberge Vancouver Hotel, there’s a weekly noon hour music series that debuts live music in Lot 19, a cute postage stamp-sized park with plenty of comfortable seating. And after dark, the perfect ending to the day is taking in an outdoor movie right in the middle of downtown on the Vancouver Art Gallery plaza, so grab a bag of popcorn, secure a seat, and get cozy!
