Beating the Midwinter Chill in Vancouver

Generally, this is the time of year when West Coast weather can be deceptively mild and pleasant….until suddenly we receive a dump of our total annual snowfall in a matter of 48 hours.

Normally it completely washes away in the blink of an eye. This year’s modest accumulation lingered, turned to ice and Vancouver was caught in the unrelenting grip of winter. So stay warm ‘n cozy: enjoy the winter landscape from the comfort of your view suite while tucking into a steaming mug of tea or a freshly brewed coffee. If you feel like venturing outside for a little stroll, zip up your down jacket, pull on your boots and take the seawall walk to Jack Poole Plaza to catch some action from the 2025 Invictus Games for wounded service personnel and military during eight days of sporting events held at Vancouver Convention Centre as well as Whistler.

Or just casually saunter along the seawall route to enjoy the action along Coal Harbour: there’s the steady stream of Harbour Air’s livery of seaplanes taking off and landing, seabirds swooping in and out as well as numerous pleasure craft casually motoring about the waterway. Stop to take a selfie with the snow-capped North Shore Mtns as the perfect backdrop. And when you’re ready to warm up, head over to Lot 19 just beside The Auberge  where you can sit by a fire pit with a cup of hot chocolate, toast a couple marshmallows and take in the live entertainment!
